Johnny Herbert is bummed that Mattia Binotto will no longer be Ferrari's team boss next season. Binotto was under considerable fire at the team for disappointing results, which prompted his departure from the Italian formation.

"I’m very sad Mattia Binotto has gone; I liked him," judges Herbert in his column on Motorsportmagazine.com. "He had an understanding of what and how things needed to be done. But as I said in a previous column, the summer break was his opportunity to address the team’s issues – and he chose not to do that."

At the start of the season, it looked very much like Ferrari would be in contention for the world title this calendar year, but nothing could be further from the truth. Ferrari suffered strategic, technical and personal errors, among others, which prevented it from putting pressure on Max Verstappen.

With all the pressure, Herbert noticed that Binotto started making the wrong choices. "It got to a point where it seemed the engineer and driver were making the calls on strategy. I heard by the end that he and Charles Leclerc weren’t even talking," the former Formula 1 driver said.

High confidence in Vasseur at Ferrari

Italian commentator Carlo Vanzini is confident that successor Frederic Vasseur will succeed at Ferrari. According to Vanzini, the Frenchman has a lot of experience and knows well what is needed to make the formation a winning team again.
