Wolff analyses current ranking: 'And then the rest will follow'

Over 20 seconds was Red Bull Racing's lead over the next team - in this case Ferrari - at the fall of the finishing flag for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Once again, the Austrian team showed how dominant the cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are. Mercedes, which has completely controlled Formula 1 in the past, can only look on with admiration.
Wolff already indicated that his team simply needs to have a steeper development curve than Red Bull. With that, his team is not alone, the Mercedes team boss analysed in conversation with the media, including GPblog. Red Bull is in a class of its own, according to him, followed by a number of similar teams and drivers.
Free air
"Between Leclerc, Alonso the Aston Martins, the Ferraris and the Mercedes, this was probably all the same in free air. That doesn't change the fact that it's the two Red Bulls first, then three teams and then the rest follow", Wolff said.
Judging by the results of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, there is no mistaking that. The top eight in the results included only Red Bull's teams (which occupied the top two), followed by Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mercedes.
