Has Lewis Hamilton signed a new contract with Mercedes?
Lewis Hamilton has signed a new contract with Mercedes that will see him drive for the team in 2024 and 2025. The British driver has been racing for the Mercedes team since 2013 and has won six Formula 1 World Championships with them. His deal was due to expire after the 2023 Formula 1 season, but Mercedes announced an extension in August 2023.
Deal at Mercedes
Over recent months, there have been various rumours about Hamilton either retiring or moving to Ferrari. A direct swap with Charles Leclerc was mentioned for a while, but this was quickly dismissed by Mercedes, Ferrari and Hamilton himself. During the Spanish Grand Prix, it became clear that Hamilton wanted to stay at Mercedes, with contract negotiations underway.
But during Thursday's press conference for the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton denied that he had 'hooked up' with team boss Toto Wolff for 'pizza' in New York, confirming that he had no updates on the situation, but expressed his positive relationship with Wolff.
No news came during the summer break, but ahead of the Italian Grand Prix weekend, Mercedes announced the deal. They also confirmed that George Russell will remain alongside Hamilton.
