The weather forecast for the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix: Rain update
It's looking like the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix will be wet, but perhaps not as bad as first thought. The Spa-Francorchampscircuit often throws up surprises with the weather, so any forecast has to be taken with a pinch of salt. However, it is predicted to be a wet weekend in Liege.
Rain has hit the last six Grands Prix weekend, playing a major part on Saturday in Montreal, Spielberg and Silverstone. It also rained during the Grand Prix in Monaco and at various points in Barcelona. Rain fell on the Friday of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, but it stayed away from the meaningful sessions. The race in Hungary featured one of the hottest conditions experienced by the cars and drivers in recent months.
What's the weather forecast for the Belgian Grand Prix?
According to Weather.com, rain is likely to fall throughout the weekend. Because it's a sprint weekend, F1 will only host one practice session on Friday. The chance of rain during FP1 is at 42%. FP1 is scheduled to take place at 13:30 local time. Rain is set to continue through the afternoon and into the evening, so qualifying is also predicted to be wet. Qualifying is likely to be wet and drivers have been warning the FIA about running in these conditions.
On Saturday, the temperature isn't predicted to get warmer than 18c. Rain is forecast to continue through the night, so the track will have little chance to dry. There is an 79% chance of rain for Saturday's shootout. That chance grows to 90% during the sprint race. For the actual Grand Prix on Sunday, the risk of rain reduces (!) to 40%, and is labelled as showers. If you're going to the Belgian Grand Prix, take your coat!
