AlphaTauri knows (almost certainly) how it will be named next year in F1
- Toby McLuskie
AlphaTauri will no longer be called AlphaTauri in Formula 1 next year, that much was already clear. It is now known internally how the formation will go through life next year, but CEO Peter Bayer is still keeping us in suspense.
After the 2019 season, Scuderia Toro Rosso's name disappeared from motorsport's premier class. From 2020, the team will bear the name of AlphaTauri, an Italian fashion brand. After four seasons, this will come to an end, but it remains a secret for some time to come as to who the successor will be.
“Discussions are going very well, unfortunately, I cannot disclose yet what the name will be. The shareholders have decided on the identity of the team, and we will move a bit closer to the Red Bull family," Bayer told Formula 1's official website in conversation. "It’s an exciting period to see the birth of a Formula 1 team, it’s a unique experience, I’m very happy to live through that.”
Laurent Mekies
Not only is AlphaTauri changing its name in 2024; but a new man will also take the helm. Franz Tost is stepping down as team boss after many years and will be replaced by Laurent Mekies. The 46-year-old Frenchman comes over from Ferrari.
