Norris jokes about Perez incident: 'Had it all planned'
At the last race in Abu Dhabi, an incident between Lando Norris and Sergio Perez resulted in the Mexican receiving a five-second penalty. This ultimately ensured Mercedes finished second in the drivers' championship, with Ferrari in third. The Englishman joked about it after the race, to GPblog and others.
According to Norris, the incident was unnecessary. As Perez pointed out during the race, the Mexican was indeed ahead of him at the apex. Norris tried to leave space for Perez, but to no avail. He was very surprised that they still came into contact. The incident eventually resulted in a time penalty for the Mexican.
Indirectly, this penalty prevented Perez from taking points away from Mercedes. As a result, they finished second in the constructors' championship. With the outcome of the race, without the penalty, Ferrari would have finished second.
"I planned for all of it"
When asked for a reaction to this, Norris responded with a joke. He said: ''Okay, that's good. I planned for all of it. I knew, I expected, yeah.
