Daniel Ricciardo on his current performance

Daniel Ricciardo's future in Formula 1 seems uncertain at the moment. The Australian has reportedly been given an ultimatum by Red Bull. Ricciardo himself hopes to stay with the Visa Cash App RB Team despite his ultimate goal of moving to the Red Bull seat.

At the moment, and in fact over the past few years, Daniel Ricciardo has not performed like he used to do before his move away from Red Bull. The strong races he experienced with Red Bull Racing are now failing to materialise. Red Bull has reportedly given the Australian an ultimatum. He must start performing before the summer, or Liam Lawson will take over his seat.

Ricciardo still believes in himself

Ricciardo says that despite eventually envisioning a seat at Red Bull, he does see a contract extension at VCARB. "As I feel today, yes. I'm enjoying the driving now; it's not so much result-driven. Obviously, I don't want to just be here to be here; I want to earn that seat, and the team is hopefully further up," Ricciardo said.

Although good performances are lacking from the Australian at the moment, he does believe in himself. "Why did Daniel Ricciardo return after a few months off last year? Because I believe I can stand on the podium again. I can win races again. The belief is there… As long as that belief is still there, I think I'll be happy being here." His critics speak of a mental problem causing him to perform poorly. The 34-year-old denies this. "I'm not in a bad place. I'm not coming from a lack of confidence."
