Here's why Bearman and Antonelli's penalties were rescinded in F2 quali
There have been strange scenes in Formula 2 qualifying in Imola. Oliver Bearman and Andrea Kimi Antonelli lost their second and fourth starting positions respectively, but when Bearman suddenly showed up at the F2 press conference, it turned out his penalty had been reversed. Antonelli also got his spot on the grid back.
Bearman and Antonelli regain their spots at Imola
Bearman initially secured the second starting position for the F2 race in Imola, but his lap time was scrapped for exceeding track limits. Antonelli lost his fourth spot for the same reason. As a result, Bearman dropped back to P16 and Antonelli to P18.
When Bearman suddenly appeared at the press conference, the young Briton, who was still in action on behalf of Haas during Formula 1's first free practice, appeared to have regained his second place. Antonelli also saw his lap time restored, regaining his fourth spot on the grid.
Gabriel Bortoleto secured pole position in Imola, and Isack Hadjar was initially promoted to P2 due to Bearman's penalty but will still start from third, ahead of Antonelli.
