Leclerc knows what Ferrari need to fix to be competitive
After winning his home Grand Prix in Monaco, Charles Leclerc had two rather challenging weekends. After a DNF in Montreal, the Monegasque driver once again missed out on finishing on the podium, with a Red Bull, a McLaren, and two Mercedes cars finishing ahead of him. Leclerc already knows what his team need to fix in order to challenge for better results.
"The high speed, we've been a bit struggling this weekend, so let's see where we are next weekend with the high speed, but we've been struggling a bit more than what I would have expected on the high speed," Leclerc began to explain in Barcelona, after he finished the Spanish Grand Prix in fifth position.
The Ferrari driver believes it might take some time to fix every issue on the car. "Every issue is something that we need to tackle as quickly as possible, but in Formula 1, it doesn't take that quick to fix those issues. Of course, we've seen I think the first difficult race of the season was Shanghai, where we saw some things, here we see it again, and we've got to focus on that."
He continued: "But before putting those upgrades on one specific issue, we've got to have a bit of time, and unfortunately in a race, even if the season is 24 races long, we still need to be back as quick as possible, because these are very valuable points that we are losing against our competitors."
More Ferrari upgrades to come soon?
For now, according to Leclerc, Ferrari will have to work with what they already have. "Not of what I know, so I guess not," the Monegasque driver answered about possible upgrades coming soon. "I know everybody is working flat out, and whatever is planned in ten races will come earlier, because everybody is pushing flat out. When exactly, I don't know," he concluded.
