George Russell was eliminated in Q1 in Hungary and has qualified 17th for Sunday's grand prix. The Mercedes driver, who started on pole in Silverstone was disappointed with the result after his teammate finished second in Q1.

For the second year running, Russell was eliminated in Q1. On the radio, he took responsibility for the issue as he said: "Sorry about that session guys, that was on me."

What happended?

Mercedes and Russell made the mistake of setting his last lap time too early, alongside the lack of fuel in his car which led him to abandon his final lap. The session had already been disrupted after Sergio Perez crashed into the barrier and brought out the red flag. Russell then asked the team: "Why are we not putting enough fuel in the car to complete the session, guys? Traction is getting better and better."
