Horner more positive than Verstappen: 'We have a good car'

Red Bull Racing 's updates are not good enough, judges Max Verstappen. Christian Horner is keeping more to himself, both about the performance of the updates and that of Sergio Perez, who crashed for the second time in a row in Q1.

Verstappen had to settle for third place in qualifying, behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. An extra lap at the end was out of the question as Verstappen ran out of tyres. "We had no tyres left. You're not going to improve on a new set of tyres. So better to save the car, keep it in the garage," Horner explained to F1TV.

Perez made a big impact during qualifying and therefore starts from 16th place. "Well first of all, it’s good that he's okay because it was quite a big accident. It's a huge shame. Yesterday was looking quite strong for him. Obviously tricky conditions but it's the same for everybody. He was up on his lap time and I think you could see the rain on his visor and the car just got away from him. Unfortunately, it's done quite a lot of damage," Horner said.

The Red Bull team boss is confident his team has a Formula 1 car that can compete with McLaren in the Hungarian Grand Prix. "It's a race that's always quite strategic. I don't think pole has won here in the last four years. So, let's see. I mean, we've got a good race car. I think we've focused our setup more towards the race. Let's see how that plays out tomorrow," Horner said.
