Wolff asks for more from Hamilton and Russell: 'Have work to do'
- Corwin Kunst
Mercedes is on the way back. The start of the season was perhaps still somewhat disappointing from the German racing team, but in the last two months before the summer break, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are stringing together good results. The W15 can once again compete for victory, much to the delight of Toto Wolff.
Until the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes were not on the podium, but updates brought to Canada changed everything. "That has resulted in an upturn in fortunes. Three victories in the past four races is testament to that. It has come from a lot of hard work and dedication from everyone at Brackley and Brixworth."
Mercedes makes strides
In the last six Grands Prix (Canada to Belgium), there has always been at least one Mercedes driver on the podium. That offers hope for the rest of the season, although it will be difficult for them to compete seriously for the constructors' world title. The Brackley-based formation is fourth, trailing by 132 points.
"The difference now from the start of the season therefore is that we have a car that can score solid points every week. We also have two top drivers that are able to make that happen. We have more work to do to be in the fight for victory every weekend. We have made good steps forward and we have a car that can perform near the front of the field," Wolff continued.
So the Austrian team boss is not yet satisfied and wants more. More improvements too. "It is difficult to say what will happen in the final 10 races. The competitive order between the top four is close. That is a good thing though as it is making the sport incredibly exciting. We will be pushing hard to fight for more victories and aiming to get top three in both championships."
