Colapinto looks forward to challenge with Williams: 'Will be huge learning curve'
- Ludo van Denderen
One minute you are preparing for Formula 2 races at Monza, the next you can officially call yourself a Formula 1 driver. From next weekend, Franco Colapinto will instead be racing Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The Argentine - now a household name in his own country - is Logan Sargeant's replacement at Williams.
Needless to say, Colapinto is extremely happy with Williams' decision to give him a chance. "It is an honour to be making my Formula 1 debut with Williams – this is what dreams are made of. The team has such amazing history and a mission to get back to the front which I can’t wait to be part of," the Argentinian commented.
Colapinto awaits tough weeks
Colapinto realises that a tough task awaits him, without much preparation time. "Coming into F1 mid-season will be an enormous learning curve but I am up for the challenge, and I’m fully focused on working as hard as I can with Alex and the team to make it a success."
Colapinto has so far driven his races for Dutch MP Motorsport. In the championship in F2, he is sixth. At Williams, he was part of the Academy.
