Verstappen holds back after FIA penalty: 'It's bizarre'
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
After the two free practice sessions in Singapore, the conversation with Max Verstappen was not about his RB20 despite only managing to finish P15. Instead, the focus was on the community service the Dutchman received for swearing during an FIA press conference.
He had to report to the stewards because he swore. "It might be better if I don't say anything about that. Because everything I say about that doesn't really deserve attention," de Telegraaf quoted Verstappen. "I think it's all bizarre."
Verstappen thinks stewards apply double standards
Verstappen found it remarkable that Kevin Magnussen had also used the word 'f**k' during the media day, but received no punishment. The reason is anyone's guess, but Verstappen suspects it was because the Dane did not say it in the official press conference. "So next time don't ask me anything more in the press conference and then we can tell our story here," he said.
Joining the stewards this weekend is Johnny Herbert. Verstappen was asked about that, but remained quiet. "Whether it's something personal? I'm not into that and I don't want to waste my energy on that," Verstappen said. And now it remains to be seen what community service Verstappen will have to perform. "I will probably have to attend something, maybe via laptop. A conference, or something..."
