A question that is regularly brought up in German media: Could Sebastian Vettel ever return to F1. In his home country, Vettel was linked to the seat at Sauber (from 2026, Audi), even as nothing indicated the Swiss team would like to contract him. A good friend of the German, Helmut Marko however no longer thinks the former Red Bull driver could make a comeback as a driver.

Not long after Vettel announced his retirement from the competition ending his career at Aston Martin, Marko has expressed he would like to recruit him at the team where he is an external advisor in a supporting role. However, that has not happened yet. Talking to Motorsport-Total, Marko said that he still friends with the former champion, but contract has dimished recently.

"I have had no contact with him for a while. He is in an area without mobile phones or where planes go, somewhere in the north. I haven't actually heard from him for the last three months," the advisor said.

'Vettel outpaced by youth'

Marko also cannot imagine Vettel to return. "He has been out of the sport for too long and there are now very many, very fast youngsters," said Marko, who enjoyed great success with the German. Vettel was the first driver to win the Formula 1 world title with Red Bull Racing, back in 2010.
