Both Verstappen and Perez raised issues early: 'Apologies received'
Sergio Perez has revealed he received an apology from some of the Red Bull Racing engineers after the struggles experienced by both himself and his teammate Max Verstappen in the Italian Grand Prix. It was one of the worst weekends for Red Bull in recent memory, with the Dutchman only able to finish in 6th.
Perez, like his teammate Max Verstappen, tried to make it clear to Red Bull Racing earlier in the Formula 1 season that there were problems with the RB20. Now he feels like the problems have been understood and the team can make progress again.
Red Bull engineers apologised to Perez
Perez started the season in fine form and earnt himself a contract extension early. Since then, his form dipped while Verstappen was still able to win some races and get onto the podium. Perez picked up a lot of criticism for his form. It was decided that drastic changes were not necessary at that time.
In more recent races, Verstappen has also struggled. Perez was asked about his feedback and whether that was more valued. "In a way, yes. To be fair, even some of the engineers after Monza came to me and did apologise in a way. Because now it's a lot clearer of the issues that I was talking about," the Mexican said on the Thursday ahead of the Singapore GP.
"But also in all fairness, I've always had all the support from all the engineers. It was also the speculation around it. And like people say, the problem was that I wasn't focused enough on my racing or other things. But at the end of the day, I'm just happy that we found out the problem and that we can focus on that and improve it," he added.
