Christian Fittipaldi on Oscar Piastri joining Max Verstappen at Red Bull

Piastri to be Verstappen's next F1 teammate? 'Not impossible'

16 October at 13:00

Christian Fittipaldi - nephew of two-time F1 World Champion Emmerson Fittipaldi - has made a remarkable suggestion about a future Red Bull driver pairing. He explains why a shock move from Oscar Piastri shouldn't be ruled out in the future.

Sergio Perez is contracted to be Max Verstappen's teammate in 2025, but his future remains uncertain. Red Bull has opted to put Liam Lawson in the Visa Cash App RB seat for the remaining six races as they want data on the New Zealander against Yuki Tsunoda. Christian Horner also alluded to younger members of the Red Bull Junior team and didn't rule out the possibility of fishing outside of their pool when publically naming George Russell.

Who will be Max Verstappen's 2025 teammate at Red Bull?

In the podcast Pelas Pistas, Fittipaldi says a shock move for Piastri shouldn't be ruled out. "Depending on the situation at the end of the season, on how much he has to help Norris, I don't think it's impossible that Piastri goes to Red Bull next year and takes Perez's place," Fittipaldi said.

Piastri showed several times in his debut season in 2023 and this season that he can regularly compete with the top of the Formula 1 field. But he has to deal with Norris and the much-discussed 'papaya rules'. "Maybe he can get tired of the situation at McLaren and say: 'I have to think about my life, my career, and I'm going to this other big team'," Fittipaldi added.

Mark Webber is currently Piastri's manager and he has good links with Christian Horner. The Australian drove for Red Bull from 2007 to 2013 and won nine F1 races. During that period, the Austrian team also won the first four constructors' titles.
