Christian Horner on touché between Sergio Perez and Liam Lawson in Mexico
Today at 17:30

Sergio Perez was unable to make up for getting eliminated in Q1 already in the Mexico City Grand Prix. The Mexican's day got worse, after he also lost performance thanks to making contact with Visa Cash App RB driver Liam Lawson. Here is how Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner reacted to the in-house battle.

On Lap 18, Perez tried to make a move on Lawson as the two were fighting for P10. After he could not make the move stick around the outside, Perez opted to go fo the inside, but the two made contact.

Given the two teams' relationship, that is less than ideal. Red Bull's external advisor, Helmut Marko has also said that the drivers need to show 'more respect'. "First of all I think it demonstrates that you can see that the two teams do race each other whilst having the same ownership, are independent as the way that they go racing," Horner began in Mexico City.

"Liam has obviously apologised to Checo for the incident. There'll be lessons that come out of that. Frustrating certainly for Checo's race to pick up the damage and lose valuable points today."

Perez eventually finished in P17 and is under pressure to keep his seat for the upcoming season at the Austrians. Team principal Horner could only agree with 'Checo' having a poor weekend this time as well. "Checo again has had a horrible weekend. Nothing's gone right for him this weekend. He knows Formula 1 is a results-based business and inevitably when you're not delivering then the spotlight is firmly on you."

Lawson and Perez talk after heated battle

"I haven't spoken with Liam yet, but I've spoken with Checo and I understand that the two drivers have spoken together," Horner shared that the two drivers have talked about what happened. Neither drivers were happy with each other during the Grand Prix. While after Lawson later could reovertake Perez and showed him a middle finger, Perez then laughed over the team radio when he heard the New Zealander's car got damaged when he fought against Franco Colapinto.
