With eight minutes left on the clock of Q1, it was
Franco Colapinto who spun off the circuit in sector one, hitting the wall hard. Colapinto said over the radio that he was okay, but his
Williams was not. His mechanics have a big job to do before the Grand Prix later on today.
Finally, the lights went green for qualifying for the
Brazilian Grand Prix in the morning.
Alexander Albon was the first man to take to the track for Williams.
The first driver to shoot off the track was
Liam Lawson. The
Visa Cash App RB driver caused a yellow in sectors 2 and 3, where he had gone straight through at the final corner. Lawson was able to continue, as were
Guanyu Zhou and
Lance Stroll, who also had their own adventures off-track not much later.
Colapinto's mistake was a terminal one. The Argentinian lost control of his car in turn three and hit the wall hard after a spin. Colapinto announced he was okay, but his car had been heavily damaged.
