Was Perez fired by Red Bull Racing? Here's what Perez sr. thinks!
Sergio Perez's Red Bull Racing stint has come to an end. As of next season Liam Lawson is set to partner Max Verstappen in the Austrian racing outfit. The Mexican driver's father, Antonio Perez Garibay, has reacted to his son's departure from Red Bull - and F1 - for the first time.
The best of 'Checo' Perez is yet to come?
"If you ask me what has been the most difficult race for Checo Perez, it was not this last one that he went through or today's, it was at the age of twelve when he was kicked out of the Karting here in Mexico, then he was kicked out of McLaren, then he was kicked out of Racing Point, now he is kicked out of Red Bull, the best of Checo Perez is yet to come," Pérez's controversial father told Grupo Fórmula.
While Perez sr. has been his son's most fervent supporter he's also been quite mistaken more often then not. Recently he claimed he had a list of journalists from whom he expected apologies since he "had data" that showed that his son would be driving for Red Bull Racing come the 2025 F1 season. However, in light of the Mexican driver's now known future, and Lawson's promotion to Red Bull Racing, it can be said that Perez sr. was once again mistaken. But, of course, this does not prevent him from still supporting in his son.
Essential goals not achieved, but he won Monaco
"I think Checo gave everything, he gave everything, two things that he lacked to achieve all his goals that he had were to win the Mexican Grand Prix and to be world champion. There are many drivers in Formula One, you know that they have been world champions and have never won the Monaco Grand Prix. Checo achieved that triumph, a wonderful triumph for Mexico," he concluded.
