- Nicole Mulder
Carlos Sainz has received a special parting gift from Ferrari. He got to take to the Fiorano circuit with his father, Carlos Sainz Sr, in a Formula 1 car. The Spaniard was also allowed to keep the F1-75 afterwards, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport's reports.
'Sainz received F1-75 as a gift from Ferrari'
According to the Italian sports newspaper, Sainz was given the F1-75, with which he won his first Grand Prix in 2022, to take home as a parting gift. That honour does not come to just any former Ferrari driver: previously, only Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel also received their old racing cars as a gift after leaving the Italian racing outfit.
Sainz said goodbye to the Scuderia in a special way. At Ferrari's private circuit near Maranello, he got the chance to take to the track with his father. For rally veteran Sainz Sr., it meant his debut in an F1 car. Sainz Sr., however, will have a chance to return the favour, by the way, his son received an offer from Red Bull Desert Wings to drive a rally car in the desert after the upcoming Dakar Rally.
Sainz has to make way for the arrival of Lewis Hamilton next year. The Spaniard, in turn, is moving to Williams to help the team get back to winning ways much like in their glory days, a challenge he says he is hugely looking forward to.
