Lawson flips the coin about being Verstappen's teammate: 'Nobody better'
Many believe, including Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner, that being Max Verstappen's teammate is the hardest job in Formula 1. One person however does look at from a slightly different angle: Liam Lawson. The New Zealand also sees the upsides of being the Dutchman's teammate in 2025.
After the 2024 season, it was announced that Sergio Perez was let go by Red Bull, and Liam Lawson will graduate from VCARB to the Austrian side. That was the New Zealander's second promotion in a row, after he replaced Daniel Ricciardo at the Faenza-based side after the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
Lawson got promoted, and for the first time, will begin a full-time F1 season in his career, with Max Verstappen sitting on the other side of the garage. According to the driver, there is noone better to team up with in the competition.
'Great opportunity to learn from Verstappen'
"There’s more opportunity than ever to have someone like him as a teammate, somebody who’s been in this team for 10 years and obviously he’s just won the last four world championships. There’s nobody better to align everything that I’m doing with because all of our data is going to be shared," the driver said at the ORBR Brand Shoot.
"For me, that’s a great opportunity to learn. There’s nobody better to learn, to improve of. So that’s exciting," Lawson continued.
Lawson however still sees the challenge, as over the years, many young talents failed to keep up with the now four-time world champion. "But obviously at the same time, having somebody so quick and competitive is going to come with its challenges. So for me, it’s just about making the most of that," he concluded.
