Max Verstappen has been the constant element in the driver lineup at Red Bull Racing since 2016. The Dutchman is down to his fifth teammate in the ten seasons he's been in F1, having decimated the other last three. The job now falls on Liam Lawson, promoted from the Austrian's sister team, Racing Bulls, after just 11 Grands Prix. Verstappen talks about what he expects from working with his new teammate.

Verstappen on Lawson: 'I am the oldest for the first time'

Lawson has been part of the Red Bull family for a long time. Before making his Formula 1 debut with the then AlphaTauri, the New Zealander was developed and brought up by the Helmut Marko-led Red Bull Junior Team and was active as a development driver. "I've seen him grow in the junior team as well," Verstappen began in conversation with the select media, including GPblog.

"I think it's nice [for him] to finally have a start to the season. I'm honestly excited to be working with him. It's the first time that I'm the older driver as well. Let's see where we are going to head together. He's a very nice guy. I'm just happy to get started."

How much has he gotten to know his new teammate and what does the Dutchman expect from the 23-year-old New Zealander? Verstappen replied: "We haven't really spent a lot of time in terms of actually talking about the car. We've seen each other at the photoshoots, but I'm sure it's going to be fine. I've seen Liam grow throughout the junior team, and he definitely deserves the shot at the team, so I'm just very excited to get to work, and just work together with the team, try to improve the car, and have a great season together."
