Norris puts pressure on McLaren for 2025: "Give us a car that can compete"
Having taken the F1 world by storm, McLaren now hold the "favourite" label ahead of the start of the 2025 season. Lando Norris is holding McLaren accountable to their responsibility to not "hide" from it's title contender role and to give him and teammate Oscar Piastri a championship-winning car.
Are Norris, Piastri and McLaren in the fray for both world titles in 2025? "After last year, I think we kind of have no excuses, I guess, in the past, we've had our fair share of honest and true excuses. I think this year, we don't have any," said a candid Norris to GPblog and other media prior to the F1 75 Live event.
"We have nothing to hide behind. We proved last year we have everything we need and everything it takes to fight at the top and be the best. If we're not [the best] at the beginning of the season, then we're just not good enough and I know we've not done a good enough job," added the Briton issuing a stern warning to the Woking-based team.
Norris asks McLaren for "car which can compete"
Norris continued: "But that's certainly not how we're thinking of things. That's not how our mentality's been. For all the guys and girls back in the factory, it's giving us a car which can compete. A lot of what Formula 1 is, is having a car that can compete."
The Briton then extended a vote of confidence in himself and teammate, Piastri's abilities behind the wheel to capitalise on their opportunities, should the equipment be championship winning material. "I think we both, as drivers, proved a lot last year in ourselves. And in each other, what we're capable of doing. When we do have a car that's capable of fighting for wins and championships, we're able to maximise it," concluded the driver who finished second in the championship the previous season.
