Lawson need not worry about Perez taking his seat: 'No contact with F1'

23 March at 06:05

With Liam Lawson's Red Bull Racing debut not going well, there's already rumours suggesting his seat would be under scrutiny by the Austrian team's leadership. Who might replace him? The Mexican fans have one name in mind. Problem is, his father, is of a different opinion.

Antonio Perez Garibay, the colourful father of Sergio Perez, has always been an ardent defender of his son's interest. When the Mexican driver's seat at Red Bull was at risk due to his lacklustre performances, it was Perez Garibay who time and time again - wrongly - reassured Perez' fans that the Mexican would be on the starting grid in 2025 defending Red Bull's colours.

Now with Lawson struggling, Mexican fans seemed to think Perez had a shot to come back to Red Bull, but Perez Garibay in conversation with Imagen Television, has squashed any and all comeback rumours: "No, Checo Perez is done with Formula 1," started the 65 year old.

F1 no longer discussed in the Perez family

"He [Perez] said so himself, and I honestly have no contact with anything related to F1 anymore," added Perez Garibay who then revealed the F1 topic is no longer discussed among the Perez's. "That topic no longer exists in my family."

So, Perez' journey in F1 is done, according to his father at least, who has been known to be wrong on his son's future in the past. "He's finished [with] the [F1] story, maybe another Pérez," concluded Perez Garibay.
