Brawn teases different layout for Bahrain: "There's a kind of oval there"

The 2020 F1 season is likely to end in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. There is also a good chance that there will be more than one race on one of those tracks. According to Ross Brawn, the circuit in Bahrain lends itself very well for that.

"One of the fun attractions of Bahrain is that it has a lot of configurations, so we could go to Bahrain and race on two different tracks there," says Brawn to Formula 1.com. "There's a nice kind of almost oval track that would be very exciting. All the layouts are Grade 1 licensed by the FIA."

In the layout that Brawn means, the first corner is cut off and after the original corner four turns left. That part of the track was also used in 2010, but instead of returning to the 'infield', go straight on to the straight for the last corner. This would indeed be a super fast layout with no more than three corners at right angles and a chicane.

Besides that, Brawn still doesn't think he's given up on the plan for a reverse start setup. This year Mercedes may have blocked it, but it will be discussed again for 2021. "Reverse grid races are still on the table for next year," says Brawn, adding that any format changes this year will be "very subtle".
