Max Verstappen was hoping to compete for the world title this season, but it appears Mercedes are just too strong. Verstappen believes the gap is getting smaller, but also suggested the gap can't be closed just like that.
Verstappen sees gap getting smaller
In the first seven races, each time a Mercedes started one pole and six of the races were won by the duo of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen was the only man to stop the domination of the Silver Arrows.
"The size of the gap also varies a bit from circuit to circuit," said Verstappen in an online press conference with Red Bull. "At Spa-Francorchamps, we also came up quite a bit short and that's just not easy to catch up with."
Mercedes wants to crush everyone
"I think we have come a little closer during the season. The balance is mainly a lot better than at the beginning of the season, but of course the other teams are not sitting still either. I do think, however, that we have improved a little compared to Mercedes.
''Of course they try to keep it tidy, but deep down they also want to crush everyone. That is what I would like too. I would also like to crush everyone and put them on a lap. But sometimes you have to be a bit politically correct and say it's a bit boring," concluded the Dutchman.
