Chilling new animation shows how Grosjean narrowly escaped death
- GPblog.com
The fact that Romain Grosjean looked death in the eye during his horror crash last year will not surprise anyone. However, a documentary has released images of an animated reconstruction of the accident, which really shows how close he was.
The French Canal+ F1 released a documentary about Romain Grosjean today. The documentary also includes a simulation of the moment of the accident, reconstructing what happened.
Grosjean's helmet narrowly misses the barrier
The footage shows that his helmet is just a few millimetres from hitting the crash barrier, after the halo has created an opening in it. You can also see how the car breaks in two and then catches fire. The whole thing is played back in super slow motion, but in fact everything took place in just 1.6 seconds.
The impressive footage can be seen below.
Wow. Incredible Canal Plus animation of @RGrosjean's accident. Most accurate I've seen to date.

Have collected the animation clips into one video here (footage was placed amongst interview footage in the documentary).

Just seen incredibly realistic simulations of @RGrosjean accident in @CanalplusF1 docu. If accurate & have no reason to believe otherwise, halo saved his life by opening barrier gap. Helmet passes within mmetres. Chilling stuff. Hope simu becomes more widely available soon
