Codemasters and Electronic Arts Inc (EA) have confirmed details for the official F1 2021 racing game. The game will be launching on Friday, July 16, 2021. It will feature a brand-new story mode, a two-player career mode and new circuits. This is the first official edition to be published by EA Sports.

It will also be the first Formula 1 racing game available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X|S. This game will also be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Formula 1 circus was forced to make serious changes to the 2020 and 2021 calendars. Circuits in Portimão and Imola were placed on the calendar to replace cancelled/postponed races. EA confirm these circuits will feature in the 2021 game.

They’ve also confirmed the street circuit in Jeddah will make its game debut. The track will host the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in December.

Braking Point

Braking Point is the brand-new story mode where players will take on an “epic journey” from Formula 2 and rising through the ranks to the big stage in Formula 1. It will also offer a taste of the lifestyle on and off the track. Character Devon Butler will make his return in Braking Point.

Lee Mather, the Franchise Game Director at Codemasters believes Braking Point will transform the game.

“Braking Point is an exciting innovation that has been years in the making. We are proud to expand the game experience and allow players to live the highs and lows of life in Formula 1 both on and off the track,” Mather said.

“Braking Point transforms the game and puts players centre stage in the greatest racing spectacle on the planet.”

Two-player Career mode

F1 2021 expands its iconic Career mode with a new two-player option that allows friends to join online and play co-operatively or choose different teams and take rivalries to the track in synchronous race sessions.

Career mode also introduces Real-Season Start, enabling players to begin at any point in the season with real-time driver and constructor standings.

“We are creating more choice and new ways to play. Real-Season Start allows players to align their career to the F1 season,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters.

“The addition of a two-player Career brings new challenges to the iconic game mode. Players can now choose to play co-operatively and share in the success or compete and strive for personal glory.”

Players who pre-order the game will receive the Braking Point Content Pack, a set of exclusive in-game items inspired by the fictional stars of the new story experience, and 5,000 PitCoins. Benefits for the digital Deluxe include seven soon-to-be-unveiled iconic F1 drivers for use in My Team, complete with customisation content, 18,000 PitCoins, the Braking Point Content Pack, and three days early access. F1 2021 supports Xbox Smart Delivery and PlayStation’s free upgrade when players switch to an Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5.
