Jack Aitken was involved in the big crash at Spa a few weeks ago. There were, as a result of his crash, questions about the safety of the circuit. The Brit told Motorsport.com that he is making a speedy recovery.

In fact, he wants to start sim racing again soon and will soon celebrate his return.

"To be honest, well enough that I forget sometimes that I've broken a few things and that I get up too quickly! I've been to a couple of specialists, both for the fracture in my back and for my collarbone. So I'm getting some more information about all that, and it's actually been really helpful. Sitting around all day and wondering when I'll get better is pretty painful in itself. But not a big deal."

Aitken to Williams?

Because that, of course, is the big question. The futures of both George Russell and Nicholas Latifi are uncertain, potentially freeing up two seats at the English team. There are many candidates, but Aitken hopes he gets the seat. Either way, he wants to race again soon, in whatever car.

"I'm looking for a quick return, rather than whether I can come back at all this season. There are a couple of races on the GT calendar, which are at the end of the shutdown, and I think it's going to be very difficult for me to drive. So I'm probably going to miss those. But I hope to be able to race again by the end of September. Williams has already asked when I can get back into the sim, because there was quite a lot of good work I was doing and unfortunately it's been interrupted. I've said I want to come back sometime in September."

"And then I'm still talking to them about when we'll do my FP1," said the Brit. "Depending on what the calendar looks like, it will probably be at the end of the year in flight races. So I definitely want to be fit for that, and ready to jump in if I'm needed [as a reserve]."

For now, all drivers who have a chance at Williams will have to be patient. A decision normally looks set to come this month, but the question is whether Aiken will benefit from it.
