The future of Nyck de Vries is, not only in the Netherlands but in the whole world of Formula 1, the talking point of the week. The driver from Sneek was a candidate at Williams, but the British formation went for Alexander Albon. He still has a chance to switch to Alfa Romeo and maybe Aston Martin is an option as well. Sebastian Vettel is still not confirmed for 2022.

De Vries was long linked with Williams, but they opted for more experience in the person of Albon. "I understand Williams' choice of Alex. He has more experience in Formula 1, so I understand why they chose this solution."

De Vries not paying attention to rumours

The Dutch driver tries to focus mainly on himself and his task. "A lot of messages go past me, but of course I'm flattered that my name is mentioned. And it's also nice to hear someone like Toto Wolff talk about me. But I'm also very grateful for the work I'm doing now." Wolff, Mercedes team boss, repeatedly called out last week that De Vries would deserve a chance in the premier class of motorsport. He became world champion in Formula 2 and Formula E. A debut in F1 has yet to materialise.

Finally, he also dispelled two rumours that he already signed a contract with an F1-team and that he will race in the European Le Mans Series. According to De Vries, none of these rumours are true. "I have no idea where these stories come from. It's both nonsense," said the Dutchman.
