Robert Kubica returned to
Formula 1 in 2019, but he did not make an impression. In 2020 he was replaced by
Nicholas Latifi and moved to
Alfa Romeo Racing as a reserve driver. This came in handy for that team, because Kubica took sponsor PKN Orlen with him, which of course brought in a lot of money. This will be no different in 2021.
Title sponsor and a job for Kubica
At a press conference held by the company PKN Orlen in Poland, it was confirmed that they will remain the title sponsor of Alfa Romeo in 2021, writes
Speedweek. PKN Orlen is a Polish petroleum refinery and a service station operator in Kubica's home country, among others. Since the two are closely linked, Kubica has undoubtedly been able to extend its role in the team for a year.
Indeed, at the same press conference, it was also announced that he will remain with Alfa Romeo as a test and reserve driver. This could already be seen during the tests after the last Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, where Kubica finished fourth behind Alonso, de Vries and Vandoorne. Team boss
Fred Vasseur was very pleased with this:
"Robert is doing great. I am happy that he will stay on board."Chances are Kubica will never compete again as a driver in the sport.
"I am lucky to have been able to turn my passion into my profession. Every time I get into a Formula 1 car, I do it knowing: it's very special. The role of test and reserve driver is important and I am happy to continue it."
