Both McLaren drives finished in the points, but Alonso insisted his team's performance is “not good enough”.
McLaren never achieved back to back double top ten finishes with a Honda engine.
But Fernando Alonso is adamant the car needs improving.
“We need to raise our game because it’s not enough at the moment,” said the Spaniard.
“Definitely, we need to improve and make a step forward. So far on Sundays, we are delivering the result but we need to be a step ahead.”
Both McLaren drivers scrapped through Q1 with Alonso and Grosjean posting identical lap times.
Alonso acknowledged qualifying needs to be improved.
“The qualifying was too poor and the starting positions were compromised because of that.
“New parts are coming and hopefully they improve the car.
“We know that we have the potential. We know the car has some good things some bad things.
“We need to make sure we improve the bad things as soon as possible.”
