Sebastian Vettel may be entering his final season at Aston Martin, reports F1-Insider.com. Indeed, according to the medium, team owner Lawrence Stroll would be interested in Fernando Alonso whom he sees as an ideal replacement for Vettel.
Where the Spaniard is almost 41 years old, the driver is still not thinking about stopping. Since his return to Formula 1 with Alpine, he has been performing satisfactorily and showing that he still has an excellent level of performance.
With his performances, he would have attracted interest from Stroll. He would have enjoyed Alonso quite a bit in 2021 and is working out behind the scenes whether it is possible to have the Madrile born in the team next season. He would then become a teammate of Lance Stroll.
It would mean that Aston Martin would have to say goodbye to Vettel. The German joined the team last season, but was not able to leave an indelible impression. Last week he himself showed that he would not be unwilling to make the switch. He says he would like to return to Red Bull Racing, with which he won four world titles in a row between 2010 and 2013.
Decision time again...not a gambler......but if I was...I would bet this wont end well ...papa stroll...Fernando....egos in one team ? ?
Vettel is exactly the driver they need to keep. He has enough experience to guide the team's progress from a driver perspective as well as be an asset to the engineering side of the house. He's the kind of driver you want to keep with the organization even after he quits driving.
Replace Stroll(s) and then there's a chance the team might progress. Typical bullyboy (aka Oligarch) attitude holding the team back, but thinking that copying the leader, and throwing money at it, will have fast results, with a "seat for my son". Fix the organisation from the top, and the car, and then any young but great drivers will bring the results.
What a joke this team has become! People are leaving in swarms from that toxic club. A wise blogger once said: “Information from F1 are either from the paddock or purposely leaked rumors.” Folks: This is AM trying to troll for Alonzo. The Alpine is a fine car and only getting better, why ion earth would Alonzo go to a team where the son of the owner gets all the first upgrades?
First Ocon, then Checo, now Sebastian, and they keep Daddy’s boy who gets to play by a different set of rules. He doesn’t have to perform, doesn’t have to care, can cop attitudes to anyone and still keep his job. Meanwhile FAR superior drivers are sent on their way, and even worse, potential world champions in waiting sit and wait for a seat. I DETEST double standards and those who work them. You want a better Formula 1? Get rid of Latifi, Stroll, Mick, if he can’t perform this year, and same with Zhou. One should be in, and maintain one’s ride by merit. Period. Lastly, can you imagine the fireworks between Fernando and old man Stroll? Alonso won’t go to Aston Martin, what a stupid thing.
You forgot to add hamilton to that list of drivers not performing or are you just employing double standard's.
Vettel had his chance last year, now Checo is likely to get his contract extended until 2025. So, Vettel won't be returning to Redbull.
