Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen will both be starting the Russian Grand Prix from the back of the grid on Sunday. Both driver's have new gearboxes fitted in their cars meaning that the pair will be forced to start at the rear of the field for the race.
Where exactly they start will be determined after qualifying, with both Toro Rosso drivers Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley as well as McLaren's Fernando Alonso also taking penalties for new components.
Red Bull showed strong pace on Friday in Sochi, finishing third and fourth behind both Mercedes' but in front of the Ferrari pair of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, who looked to be struggling with the hypersoft tyres.
It will be an unfortunate penalty after the strong showing in practice for both drivers but Ricciardo says he expects a fightback through the field on Sunday after their showing in FP2.
“It’s not the easiest track to overtake on, but we eventually got it done, so I think the race should be pretty entertaining.
“I’m happy to see there is some tyre degradation, if it’s an easy one-stop race it could be a bit predictable, so I’m hoping it could be a two-stop to make it more exciting
“Russia has never been our strongest circuit but today there are some good signs.”
