Valtteri Bottas is not panicking about his expiring deal at Mercedes as the Finn says that things are
"looking good", even though Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has said that the team will be exploring other options too.
Bottas has certainly looked significantly better in 2018 compared to last season. He's unlucky not to have won a race yet, and the Finn even got the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy in Italy last week. Still, Bottas is on an expiring deal.
"I'm always developing and improving my weaknesses, but I'm on the right track," he told Ilta Sanomat, a local newspaper in Barcelona.
Toto Wolff has said that Mercedes will also be looking at the youngsters that they have on the books when it comes to next season, namely Force India's Esteban Ocon and current Formula 2 driver George Russell. However, Bottas still likes his chances.
"Everyone knows I want to continue for a long time.
"I understand that you want to talk about contracts, but if I can do the same as I did last year, the situation looks good."
It certainly looks like he can do what he did last year, if not better. Could that be enough to warrant him a contract at the Silver Arrows?
