McLaren's Racing Director Éric Boullier has continued to play down the team's early struggles to stay on the track during pre-season testing after the team suffered another setback on Wednesday.
Last week, Fernando Alonso's week suddenly came off during the first day of testing, followed by an exhaust clip problem. Last Friday the team got some good mileage on the Circuit de Catalunya, but this week the problems returned.
Stoffel Vandoorne had to stop twice on Tuesday because he lost electrical power, then needing a battery change, and eventually a hydraulic leak ended the Belgian's day. Alonso had an oil leak on Wednesday, and is set to have an engine change before re-appearing on the track, which is estimated to be 3pm local time.
"This is not engine related," insisted Boullier on Alonso's stoppage.
"It was a small oil leak which meant the engine died, so we have to change the engine now. And before we do, we have to inspect it before putting miles on it."
"The car breaking down is part of testing, as we have some issues that need fixing. But it's just testing. It's part of the process, we're on top of it."
"Give us time and it's fine," he added.
