Lewis Hamilton finished top of FP3 ahead of qualifying for the
British Grand Prix as
Brendon Hartley suffered a huge accident which he was lucky to walk away from.
Hamilton record a 1:26:7 in the blistering
Silverstone heat to put him in the box seat to take his sixth British GP pole position.
The Brit has won the last four races at the circuit and is looking to take back the lead of the championship from Sebastian Vettel, who was over a second behind in fourth.
There was a scary crash for Brendon Hartley just before the session’s halfway mark, when his suspension failed at 200 mph as he tried to brake for the Brooklands corner.
His car went into a spin before almost rolling in the gravel, followed by a hefty impact with the barriers that brought out the red flag.
Hartley was taken to the medical centre but has been cleared fit to drive in qualifying, depending on whether Toro Rosso have fixed his car, which suffered substantial damage.
Red Bull, Haas and Sauber locked out the top ten, with an especially impressive performance from Charles Leclerc, who was only a tenth slower than both Red Bulls.
