Max Verstappen has made it three out of three as the Dutchman has won FP3 as well, after winning the first two practice sessions as well.
At the start, it was Ferrari looking the quickest. The prancing horse had been relatively absent on Friday, but looked dominant to start FP3. Vettel and Raikkonen grabbed one-two, followed by Mercedes in three-four.
As the session went on, Mercedes finally wheeled out the hyper softs, something that they hadn't done up until then. Sure, the times improved, but not by much, underlining the problems Mercedes have in understanding how to get the most out of the pink compound.
Someone who does know how to get the most out of the hypersoft is Max Verstappen. He was in fourth for a large chunk of the session as he was driving on ultra softs. The Dutchman came out with all guns blazing when he switched to hyper softs, immediately grabbing first place (albeit by 0.049).
Ricciardo was complaining after Friday that he didn't like the balance of his RB14, and something doesn't seem right still for the Aussie as he was over half a second slower than his teammate. The two Ferrari's and Hamilton closely followed Verstappen; only 0.107 seconds separated P1 and P4.
Further back, FP3 was relatively straight-forward. No crashes or red flags like yesterday, and no big surprises. Lance Stroll, who finished in last place in front of his home crowd, was complaining over the board radio once again, so there was nothing new there. Haas improved a little, but still don't look as good as they would want to at this stage of the season after their promising start.
Looking ahead to qualifying, we're wondering whether Mercedes will have a party mode this time, or if they just lack pace. Their long-run pace was one of the best, sure, but in terms of one-lap pace, they seem to be lacking. Can the rest of the Big Three capitalize? We'll find out in just a few hours!
