Paul di Resta has his question marks over Ferrari's development. The team has barely been winning since the summer break and that does not bode well for 2023.
Ferrari got off to a rocket start in 2022. The Italian racing team won two of the first three races and had built the fastest car, especially on Saturday, with the F1-75. Before the summer, however, several races were lost due to reliability problems and strategic blunders. After the summer, Ferrari did not appear in the play at all.
''I fear for Ferrari because since July, they've not really been in with a chance to win a race. They're out of it and Mercedes have caught them. Mercedes have overtaken them on a Sunday. On a Saturday, I think they can still pull it out, but I fear where the Ferrari development path is going,'' Di Rest said at Sky Sports.
Ferrari's last victory dates back to July, when Charles Leclerc won the Austrian Grand Prix. After the summer break, Ferrari did start from pole four more times, but no wins.
That development is of particular concern for 2023. Indeed, compared to the competition, the F1-75 is getting worse and worse, so something has to change for 2023. Only if Ferrari has quickly abandoned this season's development to set its sights on 2023 can the decline be explained, otherwise the Tifosi could be in for a nasty surprise next year.
When they were busy protesting and ganging up with Mercedes against Redbull, RB were storming ahead and now Merc have potentially out developed them.
Well toto good at play games like that get other teams do his dirty work.then come in with up grads
Ferrari team is like dragon without head. There is big disorder, from team managing , who is first and who second driver, than ‘famous’ pit lane chaos , car development during season failed or stoped completely etc. They have many area to improve, it is not easy one. Although they had magic 2022 start of the season , they spilled all they got. F1 needs at least 3 strong teams to fight for WC till the very end. Hopefully Ferrari will be stronger in 2023 and one of title pretender.
IIRC, Ferrari already announced that they stopped developing since before the USGP and Mercedes brought a significant upgrade in the US.
Next race, i think ferrari will do better .dont think mexico suited the ferrari
It is indeed worrying as all the updates applied through this season have resulted in the car becoming slower. An engine upgrade was brought in at COTA and they looked better, but nothing positive has been delivered to make us Ferrari fans excited about next year.
And it’s a bit worrisome that they brought an upgraded engine in the US which then had to be turned down in Mexico to avoid issues with the high altitude!
Reliability issues had nothing to do with problems in Mexico. Ferrari engine has a smaller turbo which allows F1-75 to accelerate faster out of the corners however it has to work that much harder at higher altitudes to maintain same power output. MGU-H was also affected by it. Hence, the engine was turned down to avoid blowouts. Things will go back to normal once they go back to traditional tracks. Brazil is also situated at higher altitude, so let's see how competitive they will be as compared to Merc.
Here’s what confused me, though, we were being told the previous years that Honda’s engine was less affected by the altitude in Mexico due to its smaller turbo than Mercedes with its larger turbo.
