Daniel Ricciardo is going to drive in
Formula 1 again! Following the Silverstone Grand Prix, the Australian will crawl into the RB19 to drive a pirelli test for Red Bull, the third driver told
ESPN.
"I’ve been in the simulator, but I will drive the RB19 in July after the Silverstone race; I’m getting a Pirelli test," the 33-year-old Ricciardo said about the test. With any luck, it won't stop there for the eight-time race winner."Maybe I'll get another one at Monza," he sounds excited. During a pirellitest, teams get the opportunity to test new tyres that Pirelli may want to use during the next season. This gives both teams and the tyre manufacturer more data on the new rubber.
Ricciardo is without a seat in
Formula 1 after last season. After his contract at
McLaren was terminated, he decided to take a gap year, hoping to have a chance of regaining a seat at one of the top teams after that. He is currently Red Bull's reserve driver. If
Max Verstappen or
Sergio Perez are unable to drive, Ricciardo will get behind the wheel. The tests will be a great opportunity for the former Red Bull protégé to showcase himself to the Milton Keynes-based team.
