Several
Formula 1 drivers feel
Formula 1 is not on the right track in terms of creating good conditions for real racing. Mercedes driver
George Russell shed light on the situation at the
press conference in Miami.
Drivers previously complained that overtaking was becoming more difficult again. But
George Russell sees another problem. With strong Pirelli tyres, drivers suffer little from tyre degradation, making it increasingly easy to drive long, non-exciting, stints. "
Simple things, like more tyre degradation, can already make racing more exciting," argues the Briton. "
At the end of the day, we all want to drive the best, exciting, races possible."'Like during go-karting'
Drivers are also regularly "stuck" in a DRS train. "
Obviously, with the DRS, it's gone in the wrong direction," the one-time race winner argues. If it's up to Russell, adjustments are coming soon:
"we're going to speak with the FIA and F1 about this because we want to be able to race. We want to be able to fight as we all did in go-karts where there was no aerodynamics. So that's the ultimate dream."However, the number six in the standings does feel that the current Formula 1 cars are an improvement on the previous generation of cars. "It took a really good turn for the better when these new cars were introduced. But we need to take it to the next step now," he said.
