Nyck de Vries needs to improve his performance for AlphaTauri, as the Dutchman is still pointless coming into the Canadian Grand Prix, and with performing Red Bull juniors in other classes, a seat for next year is still uncertain. The AlphaTauri driver himself also realises that he cannot fall back on his great debut at Monza last year.

De Vries' debut season has so far been overshadowed by disappointing performances and crashes. In Spain, he did manage to qualify better than teammate Yuki Tsunoda, but in the race, the Japanese driver, who has been very fast all year, managed to finish ahead of his Dutch teammate.

'Monza no longer relevant'

De Vries realises that he will have to perform better than he is doing now, he revealed to The Race: "In our world, everyone is very much in the present, and you’re only as good as your last race. So what happened last year, as much as it is a very memorable moment for me in my career and life, it’s irrelevant now, and people have, I wouldn’t say forgotten it, but we’re in a new season."
