In 2022, Dutch motorsport has to say goodbye to a major event. It is official that the DTM championship will not be held at the TT-circuit in Assen next year.

Sports promoter Lee van Dam told RTV Drenthe that negotiations broke down because of financial reasons. The talks took place for a long time, but unfortunately no solution was found.

The DTM in Assen has been organised three times before and attracted a lot of spectators. Last year there were around 40.000 visitors over the weekend. Before the DTM came to Assen, the race took place in Zandvoort. Earlier the circuit tried to bring in Formula 1, but this also failed.

Still MotoGP

The new DTM season has eight race weekends, but the weekend that was reserved for Assen remains empty. The circuit will still host the MotoGP race, which will take place in June next year.
