A difficult pill to swallow for
McLaren in Baku: A shock result caused
Lando Norris to finish only in P17 in qualifying. Why
Andrea Stella struggled to understand why the yellow flags were waved that moment,
Jacques Villeneuve declared that Norris' elimination is only the Briton's fault in Azerbaijan.
According to the 1997 world champion, there is no doubt about
Lando Norris being at fault for his early exit in Q1.
"It will be frustrating. I don't remember, I don't think you have to slow down until the yellow flag. And by the time you reach the post, the yellow flag was off. He actually did not need to slow down. So that's a little mistake. He also went off wide in the last corner. So it's not even sure his lap time would have been that good," the Canadian said on
Sky Sports.
However, because of
Max Verstappen results, Villeneuve does not believe it is already over in terms of the championship battle for Norris and
McLaren. The Dutchman finished in sixth position, and for the first time this year, behind
Sergio Perez in qualifying.
Norris lucky Verstappen's not on pole position
"He knows he has a quick car, and he knows the Red Bull will suffer in a straight line with the big wing. Max could have an issue at the start, not finish the first lap, not score any points, and Lando finishes eighth or seventh and scores a few points. If Verstappen was on pole, then it would be a different story," concluded the former
Williams and Sauber driver.
