Formula One's rear wings are to be raised next season and also the position of the mirrors are to be changed in an attempt to improve the driver's visibility in his car.

The FIA have been on this issue since the start of the year, having a look at ways to improve rear vision probems that are in the current set of cars.

The work was triggered and sped up following Carlos Sainz and Sebastian Vettel's near miss in qualifying at the Austrian Grand Prix.

These changes will need to be approved at Formula One's next Strategy Group meeting and at the FIA's World Motor Sport Council before being confirmed to be included in the rules next season - but Motorsport.com understands that this won't be an issue.

50mm will be how much the rear wing will be raised by, in an attempt to create a bigger section that is visible to the driver.

The mirror will be repositioned as well, being lowered and more outboard to leave them in a better place for the drivers.

In the final pratice session for last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, Stoffel Vandoorne was pushed off the track by Valterri Bottas and the Mercedes driver said he couldn't see the McLaren man.

"For me, I think it is a bit more difficult than it has been," Bottas told Motorsport.com when asked how he thinks the current mirror situation is.

"The main thing is the position of the rear wing, the size of the rear wing, and visibility for the mirrors. The wing is blocking part of the visibility directly back."
