Renault's Nico Hulkenberg thinks that the track record at Spa Francorchamps, which was broken by Porsche recently, will be smashed again as soon as the F1-circus arrives later this year.
The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, a modified version of Porsche's LMP1 car that was used for races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, claimed the record lap on the Belgian circuit. Hulkenberg has driven that very car in 2015, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the German team.
He has admitted that he would love to drive that car again but thinks it will be difficult as he's currently under contract at Renault.
“I think it’s just a fun project,” he added.
However, he does think that the track record at Spa won't last long. Neel Jani is the one who broke the record, logging a 1:41.770.
“I think when we come around this year we’re going to smash that record, or someone will,” the German said.
Brendon Hartley drove for Porsche's WEC team until last season, and the Kiwi added that the record was a "big achievement."
