Nyck de Vries is not having the start to his
Formula 1 career as he had hoped beforehand. The Dutchman is still pointless, almost always losing out to his teammate
Yuki Tsunoda. AlphaTauri team boss
Franz Tost still has faith in De Vries:
"We all know he can do a good job." Although De Vries is a rookie, he has already earned his spurs in international motorsport: champion in
Formula 2, champion in the
Formula E, successful in the World Endurance Championship. During a stint in Italy in 2022, he immediately picked up points for
Williams in
Formula 1.
Despite the resulting, high expectations, De Vries has so far failed to finish in the points with the AlphaTauri.
"He just needs to get the confidence – and we have to provide him with a good car," Tost analysed on
Formula 1's
official website.
"I said to him he should stay concentrated, he should stay confident, because we all know he can do a good job." For De Vries, it does not help that the AlphaTauri is probably the least car on the grid. The team finds itself in tenth and last place in the constructors' championship. The Italians have collected two points, all by Tsunoda. AlphaTauri was passed in Canada by Williams, which took six expensive points with
Alexander Albon. Williams now has seven points to its credit.
