Max Verstappen proved unbeatable for the pole in Austria. The Dutchman set the fastest time and thus has the best starting point for Saturday's sprint race, which in turn will determine the starting grid for Sunday's race.
Verstappen takes pole in qualifying GP Austria
Verstappen was just ahead of
Charles Leclerc, despite a less than perfect flying lap in the final stages of qualifying. Behind him is
Carlos Sainz, whose time puts the entire top three within a tenth of a second.
Sergio Perez qualified fourth and could also be in for a battle between Verstappen and the
Ferrari.
George Russell is lucky to finish fifth on the grid, having crashed out in Q3. Team-mate
Lewis Hamilton was less fortunate: he too crashed out in Q3, but for him, there was no more than a tenth place.
