For AlphaTauri, the Dutch Grand Prix was not a great success. Yuki Tsunoda saw his race end due to a technical problem, while Pierre Gasly failed to score any points. Gasly hopes to do better in Monza.
In Zandvoort, AlphaTauri did not have the pace to compete with its usual rivals, according to Gasly. "Especially after dropping a place at the start and running in traffic," the Frenchman said in an AlphaTauri press release. The team did learn a few useful lessons, however, which means Gasly faces the final race in Europe and also the team's home race with a positive attitude.
For Gasly, the Italian Grand Prix is special, not only because it was where he scored his first-ever Formula One victory in 2020, but also because it is close to home for him. "For the rest of my career, this race will always be very, very special for me. There’s a different feeling going there," he continues. He attributes that partly to the energy and atmosphere that always surrounds the track.
AlphaTauri comes to Monza with a clear goal. "We must come to the track with the drive and mentality to go and chase points. Whether that will be easy or difficult with the car we have, there will always be some opportunities and we must maximise the potential we have," Gasly concluded.
